How can you earn tokens on key quest on neopets?

on key quest on neopets you can get tokens for the characters how do you earn them?

unfortunately this costs real money.
you have to buy a certain neopets toys from stores like Target, and redeem the code it has. In the game though, keyquest automatically provides you with just one token, so i just deal with it.

You have to buy the plushies and enter the code in.
There are specific ones that say ‘Key Quest!’ on the tags.
